US

Hangul: 어스

US was a short spanned mixed gender dance duo from the mid 1990s. The duo was originally Yu Chae Young (유채영) who was a former and the original, first female member of the K-pop group Cool (쿨) and Danny. Their peak was when they formed and debuted in 1995. They only released two albums to date.

The US Rage To See The Day We Rule! (1995)

Their first album was technically released on December 27, 1995, but it wasn't released to be sold to the public until January of 1996. It was a major success. The album sold around 150,000 to 200,000 copies. In addition, it ranked #7 in the K-pop Top 10. The three singles from the album were 지금 이대로, 끝없는 사랑 and Christmas Dream. The singles were officially released before the album on December 10, 1995. 지금 이대로 is basically a Korean translated cover of a German Eurodance singer's song, When I Look Into Your Eyes. But the title name of US's version means "As It Is". It also became a large hit and was played heavily on radio stations throughout Korea. It was also around this time that US won the KBS2's music game show Lucky Studio. This winning provided them more airtime by appearing and performing on weekend entertainment programs.

Two versions were released of the album. The second version contains remixes of 지금 이대로 while the first version does not.

Even though the duo rose to fame fairly quickly in just a span of a year, it was considered a project. Both Yu Chae Young and Danny had conflicting opinions on what music should be done next. Because of this, US became silent for a short while.

It wasn't until a year later that US made a comeback. However, Yu Chae Young was replaced by Jang Bo Young (장보영).

All Eyez On Us (1997)

The second album was released in March of 1997. The single was 자유 which was composed by songwriter Choi Joon Young (최준영). The album was a major flop and did not make any sales.

Label: Cream Records
Sold On: CD & Cassette
Genre: Pop, Hip Hop
Style: Kpop, Pop Rap

After their second album was seen as a horrible success, US faded into obscurity.

Since 1997, Danny has been a featured rapper for a few artists. In 1997, he was featured in rap group Uptown's 2nd album Represented... Now Believe. Later in 1999, he was featured in Rock Records' studio album/compilation 1999 대한민국. Since 2004, Danny has gone under the name Donnie Gogo and has created a solo career for himself.

Bo Young became a part of the obscure duo U`Two (유투). Otherwise, nothing has been heard from her since.

As for Yu Chae Young, she went on to have a successful solo career in the late 1990s until passing away from stomach cancer in 2014.
